Solutions for Drilling Dynamics & Wellbore Quality

Tame the Vibration.
Smooth the Wellbore

Shock, vibration, and high-frequency torsional oscillation destroy M/LWD electronics, fatigue the BHA, and rough up the wellbore. Kinetic attacks the problem at the source — K-Pivot mechanically decouples the bit and motor from your sensitive tools, while Kontour’s proportional steering lays down a smoother, lower-tortuosity wellbore.

Protect the Tools, Improve the Hole

Less Vibration, Cleaner Wellbore

Destructive drilling dynamics and poor wellbore quality are two faces of the same problem. The shock, lateral vibration, and HFTO that fatigue BHA components and kill M/LWD electronics also leave behind a rough, tortuous wellbore that drives up torque and drag and complicates casing and completions. The usual response — de-rating parameters — sacrifices ROP for protection.

Kinetic addresses both without that trade-off: K-Pivot decouples and dampens the dynamics at their source, and Kontour’s continuous proportional steering produces a smoother wellbore by design.

THE CHALLENGE

Bit- and motor-induced shock, lateral vibration, and high-frequency torsional oscillation are among the most destructive forces in the BHA. They crack M/LWD electronics, fatigue connections and tools, degrade toolface control, and force costly trips.

The standard mitigation — backing off RPM and WOB — protects the tools by sacrificing rate of penetration.

Kinetic's Solution

K-Pivot is a patented stabilization sub that physically decouples the bit and PDM from the M/LWD and the rest of the upper BHA. It transmits torque and weight-on-bit to the cutting structure while isolating the upper string from lateral vibration, shock, and bending moments.

The Kontour itself is not susceptible to stick-slip or HFTO. Together they reduce the dynamics reaching your sensitive tools — without de-rating the well.

Key Outcomes:

  • Bit and motor decoupled from M/LWD and upper BHA
  • Lateral vibration, shock, and HFTO dampened at the source
  • Kontour inherently not susceptible to stick-slip or HFTO
  • Protect electronics and extend tool life without de-rating ROP

THE CHALLENGE

A rough, tortuous wellbore stays expensive long after the bit moves on. Micro-doglegs from on/off steering and high-bend motors increase torque and drag, hinder casing runs, complicate completions and frac operations, and degrade reservoir placement and production.

Wellbore quality is a primary driver of total well cost and ultimate recovery.

Kinetic's Solution

Smoothness is built into how Kontour steers. Continuous proportional control — rather than on/off cycling — produces a consistent, low-tortuosity wellbore. K-Pivot adds toolface stability and, with steerable motors, raises DLS yield enough to reduce or eliminate the need for high-bend PDMs, a primary source of tortuosity.

The result is a cleaner wellbore that runs casing easily, completes cleanly, and places the reservoir contact you planned.

Key Outcomes:

  • Continuous proportional steering for a smooth, low-tortuosity wellbore
  • Higher motor DLS yield reduces the need for high-bend PDMs
  • Lower torque and drag; easier casing runs and completions
  • Better reservoir placement and production outcomes
